Newt Gingrich today hit back at his critics by highlighting that the space program is 13 years behind the timeline indicated by the 70′s TV series Space 1999. “If we followed the Space 1999 calendar, we should already be living in the moon,” said Gingrich today to a group of supporters. Gingrich has taken quite a few hits recently from critics for his plan to colonize the moon by 2020.

Gingrich claims to be a big fan of the 70′s TV series, Space 1999, and feels that what the series showed could be reality. “I don’t see why we can’t have people living in the moon, and spaceships traveling back and forth,” said Gingrich. “What are we up to now, Apollo 57?”

Gingrich was baffled that his critics could not accept space travel and lunar colonies. “They don’t have dreams,” said¬†Gingrich¬†referring to his critics. “I intend to create a colony on the moon and certify it the 51st state of the United States of America.” When asked if a person born in the moon will then be able to be the President of the USA, Gingrich replied, “Fuck if I know.”
